Audi has recently pulled the wraps off the new engine, during the Vienna Motor Symposium, which will be used on the next generation of the A4.
The future Audi A4 generation is just around the corner and the German based automaker is starting to release the first details on it. According to the car manufacturer, the newly unveiled engine will be used on the mid-size vehicle and it has been described as being “the most efficient 2-liter gasoline engine in it class”.
“We’re now taking a crucial step further with rightsizing. Rightsizing thus involves the optimal interplay of vehicle class, displacement, output, torque and efficiency characteristics under everyday conditions. Our new 2.0 TFSI is a prime example of Vorsprung durch Technik”, said Ulrich Hackenberg, the member of the board of management for Technical Development at Audi AG.
The new engine has a 1,984 cc (2.0 liter) displacement and it is capable of producing a total output of 190 HP (140 kW), along with a peak torque of 320 Nm (236 lb-ft). The torque is applied in a range of 1,450 rpm to 4,400 rpm and the average fuel consumption stands at less than 5.0 liters every 100 km (56.5 mpg UK / 47 mpg US), undercutting its competitors and also its predecessor. The unit will weigh about 140 kg (308 lbs) and it will be coming with several fuel-saving technologies, allowing it a shorter time to warm up. Additional details on the new engine will be announced once the next Audi A4 generation will go official, towards the end of 2015.
