Mazda has officially revealed the chassis of the next-generation MX-5, ahead of its public debut which will take place at the 2014th edition of the New York Auto Show.
Besides officially pulling the wraps off the Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Special Edition, the Japanese based automaker has also put some light on the future generation of the popular roadster, by revealing its chassis.
“This SKYACTIV-CHASSIS expresses a deep-dive chronicle – complete with beginning, middle and conclusion – of the passion, challenges and triumphs being poured into the next-generation MX-5 Miata”, said the U.S. Operations, Mazda North American Operations, senior vice president Robert Davis.
The 2015 Mazda MX-5 will benefit from this new SKYACTIV-CHASSIS and this will send it back to its roots by adopting a lighter and smaller footprint. The carmaker says that the roadster will lose more than 100 kg (220 lbs) from its total weight, compared to the outgoing version, and it will also have increased body rigidity and a lower center of gravity. The future generation of the Mazda MX-5 will be officially presented before the end of this year but sales will begin in 2015. More details on the model are limited for the moment.
