Next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class caught in a premiere image

Mercedes-Benz is currently working on a new generation of the E-Class as the first spy shots with the model have been made public.

Our spy photographers have managed to capture the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class for the very first time as the company has been testing it underneath a C-Class body for the last few months. This is no coincidence because the two models will be sharing the MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform. The new E-Class generation will grow in size, just like the C-Class did in order to make room for the CLA, and this will be lighter thanks to the use of aluminum.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be offered in the same sedan, station wagon, coupe and convertible and, since it is serving as a base for the CLS, a new generation of this model is also expected, shortly after the unveil of the E-Class. The engine lineup of the new model will include some new three- and four-cylinder units and straight six engines will be returning. As far as the E63 AMG goes, this will be using the new 4.0 liter V8, found in the AMG GT. The new E-Class is expected to arrive in late 2015 or even early 2016, as a 2017 model year.
