Mitsubishi is planning on introducing a new generation of the ASX / Outlander Sport in 2016.
Over these last few years, there have been a lot of reports indicating a new generation of the Mitsubishi ASX but it seems that the Japanese based automaker is getting closer and closer to launching such a crossover. According to the guys from AutoExpress, the compact model is just a year away from receiving a new generation. Our source is quoting Lance Bradley, the Mitsubishi UK boss, who is saying that the four-wheel drive version of the model will be introduced next year, being followed by a two-wheel drive variant, which will be making use of the plug-in hybrid technology.
The new generation of the Mitsubishi ASX has been previewed already by the XR-PHEV II Concept, which has been officially unveiled during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This is a follow-up of the XR-PHEV shown in Tokyo, a few years back, and it has been slightly reworked getting the revamped front and rear ends, longer and taller side windows and en evolutionary design, which is believed to be translated into all future models. In its production form, the compact crossover will be toned down. The one-off vehicle is 75 mm longer, 100 mm wider and 55 mm lower than the current ASX and it is coming with a 100 kW 1.1 liter 3-cylinder petrol engine, backed up by the 120 kW electric motor and the 14 kWh battery.
