One of the most successful models produced by Opel, the Astra, is getting ready to receive a new generation as the model is currently being tested out on public roads.
Our spy photographers have managed to capture the new generation of the Opel Astra on camera while being tested out on public roads. The model in question will be completely new which means that it will be able to stand next to models such as the new Peugeot 308, the Volkswagen Golf 7, the Ford Focus and so on. The vehicle will be shedding some weight off its body and it is believed to be 50 to 100 kg lighter than the current version.
Lighter suspension components, a new engine lineup made out of small units, superior alloy wheels and fabrication methods will be used to make the new generation of the Astra better. The Opel Astra K will be offered in several body styles, just like the current J, meaning the hatchback, the GTC coupe, the sedan and the Sports Tourer. Power to these models will be provided by a new SIDI Turbo family of three- and four-cylinder engines and the design will be inspired by the Monza concept. More details on the new Astra are limited for the moment.
