A new report is telling us more about the new Opel Astra K as the model is getting ready to be officially unveiled.
Opel is currently working on a new generation of the popular Astra compact car and the model in question is getting ready to make its official debut. According to a recent report, which has been published by the guys from the model in question will be riding on the D2XX platform and this basically means that it will be 120 to 200 kg (264 – 441 lbs) lighter than the model it is replacing and it will be also slightly smaller as the overall length will be reduced by 49 mm and the wheelbase will also shrink by 23 mm.
Despite these tweaks, the new Opel Astra generation will be offering 34 mm of additional legroom and a more accommodating cabin. The interior will also benefit the improved seats, the 3-spoke steering wheel, the prominent touch screen infotainment system and so on. The new generation of the compact car will avoid adding features such as the adjustable dampers, a dual-clutch transmission or all-wheel drive but it will be packing the automatic cruise control and several other goodies. The engine lineup remains unconfirmed at this time but we are talking about 3- and 4-cylinder units and most likely a top-of-the-line version with the OPC badges covering its body which will be taking aim at the Megane RS, the Focus RS, the Golf R and the Civic Type-R, amongst others.
