The replacement of the current Renault Koleos SUV will be offered mostly in Asian markets, as some company insiders are stating.
Renault is currently planning on developing a new generation of the Koleos, which will be positioned above the current Captur and Kadjar and it will be basically a seven-seat rival for the Nissan X-Trail, despite it will be riding on the same platform and it will be sharing some of its components. According to a recent report, the model in question will be aimed mostly towards Asian markets, but at this time we are not excluding the launch of it in other parts of the globe.
“Not many markets will take the D-crossover and the Espace. The D crossover is mainly for Asia, where it will replace the Koleos, and there is no Espace in Asia. It will be sportier, it will be younger than the Espace”, said Laurens van den Acker, the Renault design boss, to Auto Express.
The new generation of the D-segment vehicle will be based on the CMF platform, made by Renault-Nissan, which is already used on the Qashqai, on the X-Trail and on the Kadjar. The Koleos will be similarly sized to the X-Trail and it is believed to use some of the engines from its Japanese cousin. The model will be offered with a 7-seat layout and it will be developed and produced in China. This should end up on the market sometimes next year.
