The Swedish based automaker Volvo has recently announced its plans to launch the next generation of the popular XC90 at the end of 2014.
According to the car manufacturer, the future generation of the Volvo XC90 will be just the first of several new models to be based on the modular platform which is known as the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture), and in order to get your hands on the upcoming SUV you will have two wait two more years because the company has announced that the model will arrive in dealerships at the end of 2014, probably as a 2015 model year.
“SPA makes us technologically independent, without any link whatsoever to our previous owner. The new architecture covers about two-thirds of our total sales volume”, said the Volvo senior vice president of research and development, Peter Mertens, in a statement.
The engine lineup in the future generation of the Volvo XC90 is rumored to get four-cylinder units, with turbocharging and direct inection and thanks to the use of the SPA platform, the model will weight 100-150 kg less than the current generation. Unfortunately we don’t have any more details on the upcoming 2015 Volvo XC90 for the moment.
