Nissan’s luxury automaker Infiniti is planning to launch the next generation of the G in 2014 and the model is expected to be based on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Even if there is no official word from the two companies on the subject just yet, the guys at MotorTrend are saying that the next generation of the Infiniti G will be based on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class with long wheelbase, and besides this, a hybrid version is also expected to hit the market, wearing the Nissan’s luxury brand logo on it. The Infiniti G Hybrid is rumored to be powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine, helped by an electric motor.
The new generation of the Infiniti G will also be offered with the same body styles as the current one, but the Japanese based automaker is also considering a crossover. The next G range will get four-cylinder diesel engines developed by Mercedes-Benz, while the units from its parent company, Nissan, will be slightly updated. The most powerful version of the Infiniti G, the IPL, will get a 3.7 liter twin-turbo V6 engine and it will generate an impressive 530 horsepower, entering the same segment as the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, BMW M3 and Audi RS4. The G IPL will be manufactured along with the GT-R in the Tochigi plant and its price will be similar to the sports car.
