The actual Mercedes C63AMG use the 6.2-liter V8 engine that brings a standard in the sporty middle class- 457 hp ( 487hp with the Performance Package). Anyway, the Mercedes C63 AMG will be revised for 2011 as part of the facelift program to the C-Class. Its engine, the V8 naturally aspirated ( or the twin turbo ) engine will keep the sporty – with a little more power and reduced consumption.
The latest engine from AMG is an eight-cylinder that develops up to 571 hp from an aluminum 5.5-liter block. So far, the new twin-turbo V8 in found in the new Mercedes S63 AMG, CL 63 AMG and will be offered in the new CLS 63 AMG.
Mercedes C63 AMG with 6.2-liter V8 and a new gearbox
For 2011 the sporty C63 AMG may use the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 with some electronic optimizations, or the new 5.5-liter V8. The exact performance is still not known, but the most powerful version of the 6.2-liter V8, brings to the SLS 571 hp.
Interestingly, Evo Cars reports that the expected C 63 AMG Coupe will gain the new engine, while the sedan will benefit only from a power upgrade to the existing 6.2 litre engine.
Despite the increased power that is expected, the new C63 AMG will have a lower fuel consumption. To achieve a lower consumption, beside the engine electronics, Mercedes engineers will tune up the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with a start-stop function.
An unveiling date for the new C 63 AMG has not been announced, although a Detroit Motor Show launch in January appears likely.
