Nicolas Cage joined Brad Pitt and soccer player Lionel Messi in promoting Chinese vehicles in the world’s largest auto market.
Nicolas Cage will be the brand ambassador for BAIC and will appear in a TV commercial in May, according to BAIC Motor. The automaker said that it chose the 49-year-old actor because he is well-known to the Chinese audiences, especially the 40-year-old targeted buyers.
“Cage will be our ambassador for the Senova D series that will hit the market soon,” Alex Qu, a spokesman for the company, said by phone today.
BAIC is stepping up publicity as it prepares to launch its Senova brand during the second quarter. The automaker is also targeting the government officials, as Beijing municipal Party Secretary Guo Jinlong and Mayor Wang Anshun said there are willing to replace their Audi sedans to help local automakers.
In January, Brad Pitt signed a contract to promote GM’s Cadillac XTS, manufactured in China, while Chery Automobile hired soccer player Lionel Messi in 2010 for the Riich brand vehicles. Zhejiang Geely’s Volvo made an endorsement deal in 2012 with Jeremy Lin, a Houston Rockets player.
