
The electric car from Nissan, the Nissan Leaf takes around 8 hours to get recharge complete from a standard 240V outlet. In some cases, 8 hours is too much.
That’s why from now on, Nissan Leaf users can purchase the optional DC 50kW quick-charger for $700, which recharges the battery up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.
The new systems apparently aren’t proprietary to the Leaf, either; instead they adhere to industry standards which should hopefully see rival EVs using the same charging technology, and getting the same recharge speed advantages.
Standard to the 2011 Nissan Leaf SV, with an MSRP of $32,780 are a 3.3 kilowatt on-board charger, capable of charging from either a 240V outlet or a 120V domestic socket.
