Nissan plans to use Renault Duster’s platform on its own SUV image

Nissan is focusing on developing its own Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by using Duster platform from Renault. It is a model that has received more than 10,000 bookings in just first month of its launch.

Duster platform is the model created by Nissan’s alliance partner Renault. The model has gained popularity on its first month of launch, tempting Nissan to use the technology in its own model. The CEO and MD of Nissan Motor India Takayuki Ishida said that they are interested in the SUV market and need to have good product. He further added that they have plenty of choices in the world, but with good price range they would need to localize. He clarified his statement by saying – Using the Duster platform is one of the options we are looking at.

The Japanese carmaker Nissan is focusing highly on this SUV project which could possibly attend its leading role in Indian SUV market along with entry and midsize sedan models from Nissan. The manufacturer currently sells its premium X-Trail model that belongs to SUV segment and its price starts at Rs. 22.6 lakh. Considering the fact of the market, the UV sales have risen by 54 percent to 1.62 lakh vehicles this year between April and July. Therefore, in order to expand the UV range, Nissan will launch Evalia, an MPV by later September this year. This vehicle will be produced at the Chennai alliance plant where Micra and Sunny have been built.
