Although many recent media reported that Infinity plans to begin production in China in order to boost sales, Infiniti’s Mr. Lv Zheng Yu recently declared that this is not true.
“Lots of media reported that Infiniti would produce in China, but there are no facts to back up such a claim, the point of building in China is to build your sales figure, but Infiniti’s current task is to build its brand and bring more consumers into the stable,” he declared.
It was also reported that Infiniti would set up its home in Dalian, Japan, to build cars in partnership with Dongfeng Auto, the joint venture partner to Nissan. Mr. Lv said that the company had to face a difficult year in 2011, because of the earthquake in Japan. However in China the Infiniti sold 20,000 units, an increase of 100% over previous years, and that they hope to see sales of 30,000 in 2012. Although now it’s not the moment, by 2015 the company hopes to have more then 150 dealers in the Chinese market, 4 flagships being in important cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou, each with more than 1,200 meters of usable space for sales and maintenance.
