Petty’s Garage has recently announced it will move to manufacture a total of 500 King Edition Mustangs for the upcoming 2017 model year.
The company hasn’t revealed too many details about the customization program, acting out all tuning-mysterious, but said there will indeed be a new King EcoBoost variant, as the rumor mill previously speculated. There isn’t much else to go about with this model but it appears it could sport a rear spoiler and a center-mounted exhaust system which “mirrors the look of all other Petty’s Garage Mustangs.” No surprise there, actually. Power will come courtesy of a modified version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which in stock form delivers 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. We’re pretty sure it will come with a bevy of customizations though, as Petty’s Garage calls it the “most radical EcoBoost available to purchase from your local Ford dealer.”
Buyers looking for that definitive collectible will be offered a unique limited edition model that honors Richard Petty’s 80th birthday – set on July 2nd, 2017. The exclusive offering will be declined in 43 examples only, all with a tricolor exterior that harkens back to the 25th anniversary livery used by Petty in 1996. The company confirmed pricing will set off at $35,000, but you should expect a huge premium for the King and King Premier Mustangs when they also return – as power ranges from 670 hp to 825 horsepower.
