Giants offensive lineman David Diehl (deel) has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after he smashed his luxury car into parked vehicles in New York.
The offensive lineman apologized to family, fans and teammates on Twitter and the Giants said they were aware of the situation.
“Obviously we are aware of the situation, although we have not yet had a chance to discuss it with David. Since it is an ongoing legal matter, we will refrain from comment at this time, although we will say that David has been an outstanding representative of this organization for the past 10 years, and nobody knows more than David does what is expected of our players both on and off the field.”
Diehl’s agent, Peter Schaffer, would say only that the offensive lineman is “one of . . . the classiest, most humblest New York Giants ever.”
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Diehl was arraigned on two counts of impaired driving. A judge ordered him to be released on his own recognizance and to return to court on July 26. His license has been suspended.
If convicted, Diehl faces up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
Prior to the crash, a fan posted a photo (below) of Diehl, who has boasted of his Croatian heritage, wearing the Croatian soccer team’s red-and-white checkered jersey.
