The Volkswagen Golf R is a true hardcore hot hatch, one that is adored by fans. And Volkswagen even had prospects to gratify the latter with an even more intense version.
But that might never happen as the Dieselgate takes its toll on the German automaker. VW managed to soften the blow by delivering the record-breaking especially after the last rumors claiming it has been upgraded to 420 hp (thus redubbed into R420). But before that happens – if ever – aftermarket specialists at O.CT Tuning have the issue worked out. It’s called the “muscled beast” by the tuner because it beefs up the turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine from the series 300 horsepower (221 kilowatts) and 280 pound-feet (380 Newton meters) to as much as 450 hp (331 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm).
If you’re unwilling to handle all that power, O.CT also has some intermediate power stages to get you to 370 hp / 460 Nm, 378 hp / 480 Nm, and 395 hp / 505 Nm. No details regarding performance have been shared, but we can safely assume the 450-hp model is considerably faster than a regular Golf R which handles the 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 4.9 seconds with the optional six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. Believe it or not, O.CT Tuning says it can also rework other family members of the third-generation EA888 engine – the SEAT Leon CUPRA and Audi’s S3 and TTS.
