If you’re feeling the R8 sports car is impractical for your daily driving needs, there’s an aftermarket solution – the Oettinger-odified Audi RS3 Sportback.
Now the practical compact model has enhanced performance levels, which are very close to the R8 supercar – though if you’re looking a bit across the market you may find other suitable aftermarket packages for the RS3 as well. That’s because the RS3 Sportback appears to be a darling of the tuning sector and Oettinger is just another name added to the very long list. The aftermarket specialist has a four-stage boost for Audi’s well known turbocharged 2.5-liter, five-cylinder engine. The regular version – which is rumored to be changed for an all new engine with the introduction of the TT RS performance coupe – churns out a still impressive 367 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 343 pound-feet (465 Newton meters) of torque.
Go for stage 1 and you’ll be granted 430 hp & 461 lb-ft. The stage 2 pack will deliver 520 hp (382 kW) and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm). This means the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run will take place in just 3.3 – 3.5 seconds, depending on the wheels or tires, from the standard 4.3 seconds. For comparison reasons only, the second generation R8 V10 will do the sprint in 3.5 seconds. Oettinger has also ditched the electronic top speed limiter to allow for a maximum speed of 193 mph (310 km/h), which is very close to the 200 mph level of the R8 V10. The added oomph comes courtesy of a modified turbo, the addition of a sport filter and optimized intake. The ECU was also tweaked and the unique exhaust system with valve control is here for the enhanced soundtrack.
