McLaren Automotive has announced its second model, one that will stir the soul even more than its first: the 625PS, twin-turbo V8-engined, open roofed McLaren 12C Spider.
More information on this new and emotive addition to the McLaren Automotive range will be released in the next few days when ordering commences across the company’s network of retailers.
McLaren is not releasing any teaser details of its Spider but the car is known to have a folding carbon-fibre roof and to be design as more of a targa-roof coupe than an all-out open-air convertible.
Based on leaked patent drawings and a spied prototype, Autocar believes the McLaren MP4-12C Spider will use a three-piece folding hard top when it debuts.
The announcement comes after McLaren has recently announced that the updated MP4-12C supercar will be officially presented to the public at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The updated McLaren MP4-12C will be powered by an improved 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which will generate a total output of 616 horsepower, 25 HP more than the standard version. The unit will be mated to a recalibrated seven-speed SSG transmission which is promising better responsiveness.
