The Nissan GT-R, or Godzilla, one of the most interesting cars in the world that is capable to overtake some exotic sposts cars with pricetags twice as high is going to get an update at the end of 2015.
But this time we’re not talking about an facelift. The Japanese automaker has confirmed the development of a successor that will hit the market as a 2016 model. Nissan’s spokesperson hasn’t given any details regarding the powertrain, but he said it will be a “2016MY” model – so expect the new GT-R to be available at your local dealership somewhere at the end of 2015.
However there are a lot of rumors talking about a possible hybrid powertrain. Keep in mind that Nissan has recently applied for a new “R-Hybrid” trademark; which again suggests the automaker is planning to launch a new range of high-performance hybrids.
Regarding its shape and weight, Inautonews understands the upcoming supercar will be developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, so we expect extensive use of carbon fiber.
But until the 2016 model will hit the market, for 2015 Nissan will launch a new GT-R NISMO variant – probability the last update for the R35 model. It is set for a reveal at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November.
