Opel has released the first official details and images with its newest and smallest model, the Adam.
After a long teasing campaign and with the model being spied a couple of times on the way, the German based automaker is taking everyone by surprise and it’s revealing the new Opel Adam, the smallest model in the company’s lineup yet which is being designed and produced in Germany. According to the car manufacturer, the Opel Adam has been described as an urban vehicle, at 3.7 meters long and 1.72 meters wide (without exterior mirrors), being able to transport up to four people in quite generous space.
“The new Opel Adam offers lots of growth potential for our brand. We are very proud that our fashionable small car brings German engineering excellence to its segment. In fact, the Adam is the only A-segment car that will be exclusively built in Germany. We are sure that it will get a fantastic reception in Paris at its world premiere in September”, said the company’s CEO, Karl Friedrich Stracke.
Opel says that the Adam will be offered, at first, with three petrol efficient engines, the 1.2 liter with 70 HP, the 1.4 liter with 87 HP and the 1.4 liter with 100 HP, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. All units will get the ecoFLEX technology package and the start/stop system which is helping cut down CO2 emissions and improve fuel consumption. The Opel Adam will eventually receive a whole new engine lineup specially made for it, with turbochargers and direct injections, mate to new six-speed manual transmissions.
In terms of design, the Opel Adam has a retro look and, as you probably figured it out yet, the model isn’t similar to any vehicle in the company’s current lineup so it will definitely be a place to start in developing future generations of models, which will most likely adopt elements from its front fascia. The Opel Adam is getting rims in size ranging from 15- to 18-inch and the versions equipped with 17- and 18-inch wheels are getting a sports chassis for a quicker steering response. The new Opel Adam will make its official debut between the 29th of September and the 14th of October, 2012, during the Paris Motor Show and the first units of the model will arrive in showrooms in January 2013.
