The Swedish based automaker Volvo has officially unveiled a brand new engine which is capable of developing an impressive output.
If you though that the 2.0 liter engine made by Mercedes and equipping models such as the A45 AMG or the CLA45 AMG was impressive, think again, because there is a new kid on the block, as Volvo has officially pulled the wraps off a powerful 2.0 liter four-cylinder unit. According to the car manufacturer, the petrol burner is capable of producing no less than 450 HP (331 kW).
“When we launched the Drive-E powertrain family, our aim was to deliver the most advanced 4-cylinder engines in the industry based on emissions and fuel consumption relative to performance and drivability”, said the Volvo Car Group Research and Development vice president, Peter Mertens.
Volvo says that the unit is currently build as a concept and it has been equipped with two parallel turbochargers which are fed by the electronically power turbo compressor. The dual fuel pump is working at a 250-bar pressure. The company says that it has completely eliminated the turbo lag. The Drive-E 2.0 liter powertrain has been created in collaboration with AVL, Denso and Polestar and it is currently just a simple concept.
