Only one in five Chrysler Group dealerships will sell the 2013 SRT Viper

Chrysler Group wants its dealers to fight for the right to sell the 2013 SRT Viper. That’s because only one in five Chrysler Group dealerships will have this privilege, according to SRT brand chief Ralph Gilles.

In order to qualify for the sports car, dealerships will need to train staff, buy special tools and improve their facilities.

“We’re going to open it up to any dealer who can put the money forward and the training, but it’s going to be pretty difficult to hit all of those things. You’ve got to have the training, the facilities, and some history of selling Vipers and SRTs in general,” Gilles was quoted as saying by AutoWeek. He added that only 15-20 percent of dealers will be able to comply to all these additional requirements imposed by Chrysler.

The reason for this is that Chrysler wants customers to have a great experience, especially since it expects a new breed of customers for the new Viper. A more practical reason is that the car will be produced in limited numbers, therefore it won’t hit all 2,400 Chrysler Group dealerships.

Chrysler hasn’t yet announced how many Vipers it will make each year. In 2003, Viper’s best year, Dodge sold 2,103 units in the US.
