OnStar announced its services will be available in GM’s select vehicles in Mexico.
GM said that OnStar’s services will be initially introduced in the new Chevrolet Cheyenne (Silverado) and the GMC Sierra pickups, but also on the Cadillac ATS after few months. In 2014 more Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC models will be equipped with OnStar’s the security, safety and navigation services.
OnStar CEO Terry Inch said that GM aims at introducing the company’s services in all its vehicles that are sold in Mexico. OnStar’s services are currently available in Mexico, the US, China and Canada.
“OnStar’s expansion in Mexico makes it the leading provider of security and communications services in Latin America,” Chan said in a statement. “This is a very important step in GM’s global growth and in making connectivity services available to more consumers around the world.”
For the Mexican market OnStar will offer the 24/7 emergency services, the automatic crash response, vehicle diagnostics, stolen vehicle assistance, turn-by-turn navigation, RemoteLink mobile application and remote door unlock on several 2014 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands. GM said that OnStar services will be complimentary for one year, allowing customers in Mexico to test the services, and after 12 months they will have the possibility to buy one of the two offered packages: OnStar Connect Plus and OnStar Connect.
