Shanghai OnStar reached in May two important milestones: its China subscriber base reached 450, 000 and Turn-by-Turn Navigation totaled 13.8 million units sold since October 2009.
In 2011 China’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping offered Shanghai OnStar certification, becoming the first telematics JV that was allowed to offer mapping service in China. It now provides geographic mapping, location-based services, map searches, and map download and delivery. OnStar updates its maps every three months.
Currently OnStar offers two unique options for navigation: the ODD (OnStar Destination Download) and POI (Point of Interest). ODD app sends navigation routes to the vehicle and guides the driver to his destination using in-vehicle navigation. The POI app provides information about more than 13 million points of interest, including parking lots, restaurants, gas stations, banks and hospitals.
“OnStar navigation is valued by people not only for its high efficiency but also for its human-based care,” said Shanghai OnStar Managing Director Diane Jürgen’s. “OnStar’s blue, red and white buttons connect you on a 24/7 basis 365 days of the year to our conscientious customer service advisers, who offer the most reliable and best technical support in the business.”
