OnStar announced that it prepares to integrate with the Verizon 4G LTE network and boosting its app to include more social features.
OnStar and Verizon gave consumers a peek at what’s possible Wednesday, unveiling a prototype Buick LaCrosse at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The company has equipped a Buick LaCrosse with a 4G LTE modem and a host of cameras, sensors and controls.
Some of theOnStar 4G main features
Vehicle Monitoring: this will let users to see what’s happening around the car from a smartphone or personal computer.
Impact detection: Practically a camera will record when another car hits your car. It uploads the video clip to secure cloud servers, allowing for probable identification of the offending car/driver.
Electronic User’s Guide: say good-bye to user manual – let’s welcome on-screen or on a smartphone user guide.
Video chat: you will have the possibility to use Skype video.
Traffic view: A voice-operated navi that relies on the traffic cameras proliferating around the nation’s highways and streets, to help you avoid traffic jams.
OnStar and Verizon Wireless have not said when such 4G equipped systems would be available commercially.
