Opel is planning on introducing the recently unveiled Astra EXTREME, which is the most powerful production Astra ever, sometimes next year.
The announcement hasn’t been officially made just yet, but according to the guys at Autocar, those of you interested in the brand new hot hatch will be able to order it in 2015. The model in question has been introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, in a conceptual form, but a limited production is said to hit the market next year. Opel plans on building between 50 and 100 units, in both left- and right-hand drive, depending on the demand.
The new Opel Astra EXTREME has received a Brembo braking system, a 100 kg (220 lbs) weight loss compared to the OPC version thanks to the use of carbon fiber on the hood, on the roof and on the wheels or to aluminum fenders and others. The cabin has received Recaro bucket seats with 6-point safety belts, a safety roll bar and a carbon fiber reinforced steering wheel. Power is being provided by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is packing more than 300 HP (224 kW). The unit is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which is sending power to the front wheels. No performance specifications have been announced so far.
