Opel has recently announced its plans to introduce the new 1.6 SIDI engine on the Astra GTC in Australia, where the model should arrive in July.
The Opel Astra GTC will receive the 1.6 liter SIDI engine, in Australia, the same unit which can be found on other versions of the new Astra, like the five-door hatchback, the four-door sedan or the Sports Tourer. The model will become available with a manual version in most markets, but Australia will receive an automatic transmission, along with the sports chassis, the HiPerStrut front suspension, leather trim and sports seats, amongst others.
The new 1.6 liter four-cylinder SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Turbo engine is producing a total output of 125 kW and it has a peak torque of 280 Nm. The model is burning an average of 6.8 liters of fuel every 100 km and it’s emitting 160 g/km of CO2. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint in the automatic is done in 9.2 seconds and in 8.3 seconds in the manual. Both transmissions have six speeds. Prices for the Opel Astra GTC Sport 1.6 EcoTec Turbo six-speed start at 34,990 AUD and for the 1.6 SIDI Turbo six-speed automatic, at 36,990 AUD.
