Opel has announced the introduction of a new diesel engine to the Astra GTC, which is currently available for order on its local auto market.
After introducing a new diesel engine for the Opel Meriva, the German based automaker has recently announced a new 1.6 liter CDTI diesel unit for the popular Astra GTC. According to the car manufacturer, the new unit has been designed to replace the previous 1.7 liter and it should be a response to the unit with the same displacement, signed by Renault.
“Opel’s extremely efficient whisper diesel is the first unit in the Astra portfolio to already comply with the future Euro 6 emissions standard, making it the cleanest diesel Opel has ever built. The engine is best-in-class in noise and vibration generation thanks to its optimized component design, an especially efficient combustion process with multiple injection and additional acoustic measures”, says the carmaker in its official press release.
The new Opel Astra GTC 1.6 CDTI is coming with a total output of 136 HP (100 kW) and it has a peak torque of 320 Nm (236 lb-ft), which basically means 7 HP (5 kW) and 20 Nm (14 lb-ft) more. Thanks to the extra output, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is made in 10.2 seconds and top speed now stands at 198 km/h (123 mph). The average fuel consumption is 4.1L / 100km (68.9 mpg UK / 57.3 mpg US) and the CO2 emissions stop at 109 g/km. The model is available for order in Germany from 24,390 EUR, VAT included.
