The German based automaker Opel has recently announced that the 2013 Astra GTC will receive a new engine, the 1.6 liter SIDI Turbo.
Even if the 1.6 liter SIDI Turbo engine is already available for the rest of the Opel Astra lineup, including the five-door hatchback, the Sports Tourer and the four-door sedan, the GTC version wasn’t available with this engine choice, until now. The new Opel Astra GTC 1.6 SIDI Turbo is already available for order in Germany, and the model can be yours starting from 23,850 euros, VAT included.
“With its superb performance the Turbo direct injection gasoline engine perfectly complements the Opel Astra GTC’s character – a muscular look that combines attention-getting design with strong performance and exemplary economy”, said the Opel Management board member for Engineering, Mike Ableson.
The 1.6 liter SIDI Turbo engine is producing a total output of 170 HP (125 kW) and 260 Nm of torque (192 lb-ft), but with the overboost function, the torque figure can go up to 280 Nm (206 lb-ft). The unit can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission, in standard, or to a six-speed automatic, offered as an option. The 1.6 SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Turbo will burn an average of 6.1 liters of fuel, every 100 km, or 38.5 mpg US / 46.3 mpg UK, and it will emit 143 g/km of CO2. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 8.6 seconds and top speed stands at 219 km/h (136 mph).
