The new generation of the Opel Astra will be officially presented to the public during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, as the car manufacturer has recently announced.
Opel is getting ready to pull the wraps off the Astra K. The model in question is the next generation of the popular compact car and this will go official at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in September. The announcement has been made recently by the German based automaker which has also released the first images with it.
“Each generation has raised the bar in safety, comfort and efficiency. The new Astra will once again set standards in the compact class. Amongst others, it will be the first new Opel model to be launched with Opel OnStar’s unique connected service that is ready to help and rescue you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year”, said Karl-Thomas Neumann, the Opel Group CEO.
The 2016 Opel Astra should ride on the D2XX platform and this will help shed up to 200 kg (441 lbs) from its total weight. The model will be 49 mm shorter and its wheelbase will shrink by 23 mm but even so, the carmaker is stating that this will offer 34 mm of additional legroom. The interior design of the car should also be improved and fitted with a prominent touch screen infotainment system, a 3-spoke steering wheel and improved seats. The automatic cruise control will also be added, along with a new generation of 3- and 4-cylinder engines. More details on it will be announced during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
