The German based automaker Opel has recently announced its plans to get back into the motorsport game next year with the “help” of the Adam Cup and the Astra OPC Cup.
According to the car manufacturer, a rally cup version of the all-new Opel Adam will be used in the 2013 season and the model will take part in the ADAC Opel Rally Cup, part of the ADAC Rally Masters race series. Besides the Opel Adam Cup, the carmaker will also use the Astra OPC Cup, which has been engineered in order to meet the VLN Endurance Championship standards, taking part in the Astra OPC Cup which includes a 24-hour race on the Nurburgring.
“These new motorsports activities play an important role in the strategic re-alignment of the company; they are a fundamental element of our brand profile”, said the Opel Deputy CEO, Dr. Thomas Sedran.
The new Opel strategy will last initially until 2016 and after that, a development program will run where, according to the company, talented drivers will be able to graduate from the ADAC Opel Rally Cup. Additional details on the subject will probably be announced early next year.
