Opel is rumored to introduce a new GT Coupe Concept in just a few months, during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The current Opel GT has turned out to be quite popular and, since it has been around for a lot of years now, the German based automaker is currently thinking about adding a newer version. According to a recent report published by AutoExpress, the upcoming Opel GT will be based on the newest generation of the Astra and it is said to gain the shape of a coupe, unlike its predecessor, which was offered as a roadster. Our source is stating that this hasn’t been green-lighted for production just yet but that isn’t stopping the carmaker from developing a one-off version.
The upcoming Opel GT Coupe is rumored to be shown at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, next March, and a decision on a possible production version will be made then, judging the feedback received from the press and the public. Rumor has it that the upcoming sports car will be taking its styling cues from the Opel Experimental GT, which has been introduced back in 1965. The new one will be adopting a front-wheel drive layout, as it will be based on the Astra, and it should get a lot of turbocharged gasoline and diesel burners from other vehicles made by Opel. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and an optional automatic. If it will be approved for production, than the new Opel GT should roll of sometimes in 2017, being followed by a roadster variant one year later.
