The new generation of the Opel Astra is believed to gain two hot versions in the shape of the GSi and the OPC.
Another report is indicating that the Opel Astra K will be rolling out two hotter versions, the GSi and the OPC. The announcement hasn’t been made official at this time but according to the guys from Autocar, who are quoting Karl-Thomas Neumann, the GM Europe boss, the return of the GSi will be made in the new Astra generation. The model in question is expected to be getting the 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine under its hood, from the larger Insignia, as it will be producing around 250 HP.
This will become a rival for the Ford Focus ST and for the Volkswagen Golf GTI, amongst others, and it will be offered, at the time of its launch, in a 5-door body style. The model will receive a hotter look which will be making it instantly recognizable thanks to its updated body kit and it will also come with a sports suspension system, better brakes and an updated interior with bucket seats. The Astra OPC will also gain a replacement and it will be aimed towards the Ford Focus RS and the Volkswagen Golf R. The 2.0 liter four-cylinder petrol engine is expected to produce around 300 HP under its hood and chances are this will only be offered in a 3-door version. The model will come with an updated body kit, different from the one of the Astra GSI, with a limited slip differential, better brakes and a revised suspension system.
