Besides presenting at its Frankfurt Motor Show stand models like the new Astra GTC, Zafira and the new surprise concept under the RAK e name, Opel has also announced that its new Junior will be hitting the showrooms in less than two years.
Even if it already has the Corsa and the Agila models in its lineup, Opel has decided to go against cars like the Mini or the Fiat 500 with its new Junior, that will have no room for errors with Ford having the Ka model, Suzuki’s Splash and of course the Mini and the Fiat 500.
“A postpone of the project is excluded. Junior is the most beautiful and exciting project I’ve worked my whole career. If the project had been canceled I would have probably been home right now, screaming”, told automarket.ro the Opel’s marketing director Michael Meyer. “Let’s say we will see the new Junior in less than two years. It will come as a production version”, added the company’s official.
Opel didn’t provide any more details of its urban vehicle except the fact that its running costs would be around 1 euro for every 100 kilometers, thanks to its electric powerplant.
The new Opel Junior is scheduled to hit the dealerships sometimes in 2013, but the smallest car of the German automaker might be officially unveiled at an international auto show before its launch.
