Opel and legendary Dutch football club Feyenoord Rotterdam have agreed a sponsorship deal until 2017, which will earn the Rotterdam club €5 million a year.
The Opel name was last seen on Feyenoord’s shirts between 1984 and 1989, and will replace current sponsor ASR from next season. In addition to the first team, Opel will also sponsor the youth and sports club Feyenoord for the same period.
“Opel is one of the leading car manufacturers in Europe. It’s beautiful and good for the image of our club that such a reputable brand signs a multi-year contract with us. The long history of Opel and Feyenoord already have with each other also shows that the two strong brands that are also very well together. We are convinced that with the Opel best possible partner for the coming years,” said Feyenoord’s commercial director Mark Koevermans.
“Feyenoord and Opel share a number of strong and powerful brand values and a determined strategy. We are both established names in the Dutch market and both organizations have a number of ambitious initiatives in the pipeline for the future,” said Duncan Aldred, Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales for Opel Europe.
Extra money to the club will be important, as Feyenoord is looking to build a new stadium over the coming years to replace De Kuip.
