General Motors brand has decided to go against the Mini and the Fiat 500 by launching a rival, Opel-badged, under the Junior name.
According to Autocar, the new model from Opel / Vauxhall will be a four-seat city car, 3.7 meters long, with access being made through two doors.
Opel is going against serious competitors in a market segment which has no room for errors, with Ford having the little Ka model, Suzuki’s Splash and the Mini and Fiat 500 being iconic.
Even though it already has the Corsa and the Agila models, the Junior is set to have the most premium appeal, with plenty of curves and bumps, the Opel Design Studio in Russelsheim giving it an urban chic look.
The new model which will enter Opel’s and Vauxhall’s range is scheduled to hit the dealerships in early 2013, with a possible unveiling before that at a major auto event. No other details about Opel’s urban vehicle have been announced yet.
