The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer has taken the wraps in front of the worldwide audience of the Mondial de l’Automobile off the most powerful member of the A3 family – the RS3 Sedan.
The widely-anticipated RS 3 Sedan, which is going to be available in the United States as well – is fitted with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged unit good for 400 hp. This is Audi’s newest iteration of the 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the same one seen under the hood of the TT RS. This is also the most powerful five-cylinder engine on offer with 400 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and a peak torque of 354 pound-feet (480 Newton meters), available between 1,700 and 5,850 rpm. Audi’s new executive pocket rocket will sprint to 62 mph (100 kilometers per hour) in a supercar-touting 4.1 seconds, while being capped electronically at 155 mph (250 km/h) – though the automaker can also optionally enable a maximum speed of 174 mph (280 km/h).
Being a typical RS, the power is directed to a Quattro all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox – and the drive select dynamic handling system integrates the AWD management alongside the steering, gearbox, engine management, and the adjustable exhaust flaps. There’s a four-link rear axle and the suspension sits one inch (25 millimeters) lower, while stopping power is enabled through the front brake disks 14.6 inches (370 mm) and eight-piston calipers with large-area linings. The aerodynamic body kit includes new bumpers with skirt for the front and a large diffuser for the rear, bigger air intakes, side skirts, and large oval tailpipes – as well as two RS-bespoke colors: Nardo gray and Catalunya red.
