The new generation of the Mazda MX-5 has been officially unveiled in Paris, in a world premiere.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 has went official as the model in question has been officially presented to the public during the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The roadster has been already previewed last month and it stands at 105 mm shorter, 10 mm wider and 20 mm lower than its predecessor. A significant amount of weight has been dropped from its body, 100 kg (220 lbs) to be more exact.
The brand new MX-5 has an almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution, a front double wishbone, a rear multi-link setup and the rear-wheel drive, which means that it should be quite fun on the track and not only. The fourth generation of the popular vehicle is also coming with the electric power assisted rack and pinion steering, front ventilated and rear solid discs, 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50 tires and so on.
In case you feel that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 looks quite recognizable, that is because the engineers have implemented the KODO design language, which can already be seen on some new models made by the company, starting with the Mazda6. Across the Old Continent, the new roadster will be coming with a 1.5 liter SKYACTIV-G gasoline burner, connected to a 6-speed manual transmission, while in the U.S., the model will get a 2.0L unit. No outputs have been announced yet. the new generation of the MX-5 will go on sale next year.
