After it debuted online last month, Bentley has officially introduced to the public the Mulsanne Speed limousine at the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show.
The British “monster” sedan has been created to feature “the fastest ultra-luxury driving experience in the world”, and has come to sit atop Bentley’s model range. I’m not sure that you care, but the Speed comes in just four colors: Spectre, Candy Red, Camel and Marlin. Other exterior changes are the dark tint finish featured on the radiator grille, lower bumper grilles and wing vents. There are also new rims available: 21-inch alloys that sport painted, polished and dark tint with machined accent finishes. The interior changes are fairly limited but we noticed the diamond quilting for the seats and door panels, special drilled pedals or new headlining.
“The new Mulsanne Speed is the car that defines Bentley, as a flagship for driving luxury performance. Our customers don’t compromise, and we’ve adopted the same approach in the design, engineering and crafting of our new flagship. The Mulsanne Speed is distinguished, calm and relaxing, but always with a connection to the road and relentless dynamic performance on demand. In this car, every journey becomes a drive,” says Wolfgang Dürheimer, the Chairman and CEO of Bentley.
More important than anything else, even the price, is the updated 6.75-liter V8 engine, which now boasts 537 PS (395 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque. With the added power, the Speed can jump to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).
Depending on the driver’s needs, there’s an updated 8-speed automatic transmission with a faster S-mode or the engine can deactivate four of its cylinders and essentially become a V4 – reducing CO2 emissions from 393 g/km to 342 g/km.
