Peugeot has released the very first images and details with its latest creation, the 2008 crossover, which is based on the 208 hatchback.
The first rumors on a crossover based on the Peugeot 208, which will probably be named the 2008, following the same path as its larger brothers, have appeared sometimes in 2012 and after the model has been spied a couple of times, the French based automaker is now placing it into the spotlights for the first time, with the help of some official images and details.
The final production version of the Peugeot 2008 isn’t drastically different than the 2008 Concept which was unveiled during the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September and we can see new a front bumper, larger wing mirrors, a new rear bumper and the added door handles, amongst others. The design cues of the grille follow the same lines of the 208.
The Peugeot 2008 will get a turbocharged version of the 1.2 liter three-cylinder engine, which is expected to produce a total output of 110 BHP and to return over 60 mpg. Other options will probably include a 1.6 e-HDi diesel, with 92 BHP, a naturally aspirated version of the 1.2 liter three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 82 BHP, and a turbocharged 1.6 THP, generating 156 BHP. All-wheel drive won’t be offered but the most expensive versions will get the Grip Control system, similar to the one used on the 3008. The official starting price of the Peugeot 2008 is yet to be confirmed.
