Peugeot has just released the first official image of what will be known as the 208 GTI, a revival of the iconic 205 GTI hot hatch.
The French based automaker has published the official image with the new 208 GTI on its official Facebook page and according to the company, this is actually a preview of the advanced sports chassis which will underpin the hot hatch. Even if the car manufacturer is recognizing the development of the 208 GTI, Peugeot didn’t release any details on the model, so the following info are based on the rumors in recent months.
The new Peugeot 208 GTI is expected to be powered by the famous 1.6 THP engine, which will generate a total output of 155 horsepower, less than the Mini Cooper S JCW, but still enough to make you want one. The Peugeot 208 GTI is rumored to get closer to its predecessor, the 205 GTI, and to do so, the company will also offer the upcoming model with another power choice, based on the same 1.6 liter turbo engine, which will generate 181 HP, and offer a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of less than 7 seconds, while still managing to return an average of 50 mpg.
The exterior design of the Peugeot 208 GTI will get a new body kit, bigger alloy wheels, larger fog lights, a roof spoiler and a twin-exhaust system, while the cabin will be fitted with sports seats, GTI badges and some other upgrades.
