The Peugeot 208 TYPE R5 rally car will be officially presented to the public in a world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show on the 27th of September.
Set to be a replacement for the 207 Super 2000, the Peugeot 208 TYPE R5 model will debut on the track in its first rallies in the second half of 2013, but until then, the racer will make its public debut on the 27th of September at the Paris Motor Show.
“After the 208 R2, Peugeot Sport is opening a new chapter in the sports variants of the 208, and not least with the 208 Type R5. A true ‘competition wildcat’, it will replace the 207 Super 2000, benchmark of the S2000 category as much for its technical performance as for its sporting and commercial performance”, as the carmaker is saying in its official press release.
Power to the Peugeot 208 TYPE R5 is provided by a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine, which is developing a total output of 280 BHP (208 kW) at 6,000 rpm and it has a peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) available at 2,500 rpm. Power is being sent to the all-wheel drive system through the five-speed sequential transmission. The Peugeot 208 TYPE R5 is 3,962 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and it’s riding on a 2,560 mm wheelbase.
