The French based automaker Peugeot has recently announced that the new 408 model (308 Sedan) will hit the production line in Malaysia soon.
According to the car manufacturer, PSA has signed a joint venture with NAZA, a Malaysian company, in order to start the assembly of the mid-size Peugeot 408, or the 308 sedan as it is also being known. The joint venture signed by the two companies means that the French automaker will have to invest a lot of money in order for the new 408 to be made in Malaysia, but even so, Peugeot is confident that it will overtake Proton in the nearby future and the 408 will be made in 60,000 units in 2012 in Malaysia.
The Peugeot 408 has already been spotted in Malaysia earlier this year and the model has been caught without any camouflage while it was being parked in the Asian country. Rumors are saying that the Peugeot 408 will be launched, at first, with a 1.6 liter turbocharged engine, but there is no info on this yet. The 408 is the company’s attempt to fill the gap between the current 407 and the larger 508 and the model is already available in China, with a 1.6 liter engine generating 108 HP and 142 Nm of torque, along with a 2.0 liter with 150 HP and 200 Nm of torque, both of them mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission.
