The French based automaker Peugeot is planning to introduce an even hotter version than the current 208 GTI, which is expected to be named the Peugeot 208 R.
The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet by the carmaker but it was hinted by Maxime Picat, the company’s CEO, in a recent interview with Automotive News. According to Maxime Picat, the new Peugeot 208 R will sit about the current 208 GTI, but even so, the model in question will not make its way onto the market any sooner than 2015. The new Peugeot 208 R will be part of the brand’s plans to move upmarket.
The new Peugeot 208 R is expected to follow the same recipe from the RCZ R, so we are expecting to see a lighter body, a different body kit, new wheel design, some minor tweaks around the cabin and probably some new badges. The most important part of the new powerful French hot hatch will be found under its hood, where the unit will produce more than what the outgoing 208 GTI has to offer, from its 1.6 liter four-cylinder THP engine. Additional details on the upcoming Peugeot 208 R are limited for the moment and will be announced probably close to its launch.
