The French based automaker Peugeot is planning to develop a direct rival for the Mercedes-Benz CLA, which is supposed to hit the market quite soon.
While Renault is working with Mercedes-Benz and sharing engines and components, Peugeot is planning to rival the German company’s small four-door coupe, the CLA, with a so-called 408 GT. The announcement hasn’t been made officially just yet, but according to the guys at Auto Express, the model in question should go on sale in a couple of years. The new Peugeot 408 GT will ride on the EMP2 platform and it should have most of its interior design carried over from the new 308, but with more quality materials.
The Peugeot 408 GT will be longer and lower than the 308 and it will get a more aggressive styling. As far as the engine lineup goes, this is also expected to be carried over from the second 308 generation, and this means that we will see 1,2-, 1,6 or 2,0-liter units, delivering from 128 HP to 178 HP. The vehicle will be previewed by a concept car this April, during the Beijing Motor Show. Additional details on the Peugeot 408 GT are limited for the moment and will be announced during the Chinese automotive event.
