Peugeot to use 308 GTI, 308 XY and 208 R to move upmarket image

The French based automaker Peugeot is planning to develop new versions of its current models in order to move upmarket.

According to the guys at Car Advice, Peugeot will use several new versions of its current models in order to move upmarket. These vehicles will be the Peugeot 308 GTI, the 308 XY and an R version of the 208. The XY range will stand for luxury, the Air for hybrid, the GTI for sportiness and the R for its most powerful cars. The GTI badge will soon be expanded beyond the 208 and onto the 308.

Besides this, the B-segment car will receive an R version too, and an R variant of the RCZ will also be developed. The Peugeot 208 R will sit above the 208 GTI, just like the RCZ R will sit above the RCZ and the 308 GTI will cost more than the regular 308. Rumors are saying that the C-segment hot hatch will probably get 150 kW from a 1.6 liter turbo engine, and this will become a rival for the new Golf GTI, as well as for other hot hatches in the segment.
