The North American based automaker Ford is planning to introduce the 2012 model year Focus ST to the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, with the hot hatch hitting the dealerships right after the event.
Ford didn’t officially specified how much will the North American-spec Focus ST will be generation from the 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine but its European cousin is developing, from the same unit, 247 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque (265 lb-ft).
“Focus ST has not come around by chance. What came first was our global performance strategy, which has been developed with North America, Europe and Asia together. With this, the core DNA attributes – steering, driving dynamics, sound quality and power enhancements for all ST models – have been defined to the extent that our engineers can take that global DNA fingerprint and use it to create the new Focus ST”, said the director of Global Performance Vehicles, Jost Capito.
The Ford official is promising its future customers five-cylinder engine sound from the 2.0 liter EcoBoost, with the unit being mated to a six-speed manual transmission, helping the European version to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 154 mph.
The 2012 Ford Focus ST is expected to hit the North American dealerships early next year.
