After the 208 has leaked only a day before its official presentation, the French based automaker Peugeot has decided to stick to the plan and unveil its new generation of the popular hatchback, with a promise that the model will pack a GTI version later.
“The 208 is a new illustration of the Marque’s project launched two years ago, representing a new stage in Peugeot’s desire to drive itself towards ever greater modernity”, said the Peugeot marketing and communication director Xavier Peugeot.
“With the 208, Peugeot has given itself the means to recreate an icon”, added the product range director within Peugeot Automobiles, Laurent Blanchet.
The French based automaker says that its 208 is lighter by 110 kg than its predecessor, the 207, but the weight saved can go up to 173 kg in some cases. Peugeot still didn’t announce official details about its new hatchback generation and it’s probably waiting for these kind of details to leak, just like the images did just a day ago.
Rumors say that the most economic engine will have an average fuel consumption of just 3.4 liters every 100 km and the gasoline powered units will have only two displacements, 1.0 and 1.2 liters, with the smallest engine emitting just 99 grams of CO2 / km.
