Popular Mechanics picks the best cars of the year image

In its usual annual automotive rewards, Popular Mechanics publication has revealed the best cars you can get your hands on this year.

Popular Mechanics’ Automotive Excellence Awards is the magazine’s top picks of the year with the most balanced cars in terms of driving experience and technical offering. The top evidently begins with the car of the year crown, which the editor decided to grant on this occasion to Chevrolet Camaro, as “it’s just a kick-ass sports coupe, a BMW-eating hunk of A-game American engineering.” It also delivers quite some thrilling sensations behind the wheel, pushed by the 455-hp 6.2-liter V-8 engine capable of going to 60 mph in four seconds flat.

Going big, Popular Mechanics considers Ram truck to be the model to beat in the segment. It is the only pickup with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, and it also has the most ambitious suspension, while the engine line-up is a very satisfying one with a 305-hp V-6, a beastly Hemi V-8, or a 3.0-liter diesel.

Moving on to the best sports car, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R took the crown simply because “is an exotic European supercar disguised as a Mustang.” It has all kinds of goodies, including “carbon-fiber wheels, like a Koenigsegg, Brembo brakes like a Lamborghini Huracán’s—but bigger, and the V-8 has a flat-plane crankshaft, like a Ferrari 458 Italia.”

Here you can find the whole story and other great picks from Popular Mechanics.
